Evansville Christian School believes that using technology to learn is a critical piece of a relevant education in today’s world, and learning and teaching with a Biblical worldview is a critical piece of the Evansville Christian School experience. God’s Word is to be experienced actively…with critical minds, and it is our belief that the Bible and the good news of Jesus Christ will always make the most sense. Our society is on information and opinion overload, whether through media, billboards, music, movies…you name it.  We are fed that truth is relative. We do not believe that to be true according to God’s Word. Information is everywhere, but how do we know what to make of it?

With technology as present as it is, simply having information and repeating information is not enough. Do students understand the true value of what it means to find information? To validate information? Synthesize it? Leverage it? Communicate with and collaborate with information? Do students really know how to problem solve with information? The information only matters as much as our students know how to use it. Asking yes/no questions? Go deeper. Opportunity for students to disagree with ideas? Go there. These seven essential literacies help shape deeper, critical thinking.

Students at all grade levels have daily access to technology in the classroom. Grades Pre-Kindergarten through 3 utilize SeeSaw as their online management system, and grades 4-12 utilize Google Classroom. Students in 6th-12th grades are provided with a school-managed Chromebook for the school year. Our learning model heavily uses the Google Classroom as a platform for finding, sharing, validating, leveraging, synthesizing, communicating with, collaborating with, and problem-solving with information. 

Why do we use and recommend Google Classroom? Google Classroom is one of the best solutions for messaging, collaborating, interactive learning and online classrooms. It provides a platform to keep our information safe, secure and in our control. It also encourages a high adoption of technology with our students, meaning that students get comfortable with computers in productive, everyday use.
